Department of Physical Education Collects Research Data on Youth Badminton Athletes at AT FIRST, Advancing Systematic Athlete Development Through Sports Science
June 13–14, 2026 | AT FIRST Sports Club, Nonthaburi Province
Mr.Mongkon Wimonrat, Director-General of the Department of Physical Education, has approved the Bureau of Sports Science to conduct data collection for a research project titled “Sports Talent Indicators: Development of Normative Criteria for Assessing Distinguished Characteristics of High-Potential Badminton Athletes.” The initiative marks an important step toward strengthening Thailand’s national sports science database.
The field data collection was conducted under the leadership of Dr. Acharat Yongtawee, Director of the Bureau of Sports Science, in his capacity as Director of the Department of Physical Education’s Sports Science Research Program. Dr. Acharat, together with a team of researchers, visited AT FIRST Sports Club to test and assess the performance of the club’s youth badminton athletes. The assessments covered body composition, physical fitness, and cognitive abilities, with the aim of identifying the athletes’ true potential across different age groups.
The collected data will be analyzed and developed into normative data, which will serve as an academic tool for identifying talented athletes and designing training programs tailored to the potential of youth badminton players in the future. This evidence-based approach will help ensure that the development of young Thai athletes is systematic, transparent, and grounded in measurable scientific data.
The research project is funded by the Thailand Science Research and Innovation Promotion Commission (TSRI) for Fiscal Year 2025. The Department of Physical Education will continue collecting data to build a comprehensive and highly reliable dataset that can be effectively applied to the development of Thailand’s athletes.
This research initiative reflects the Department of Physical Education’s commitment to advancing Thai sports development through scientific knowledge, with the goal of nurturing Thai athletes who are fully prepared to compete at the international level.
