Reaction Force Acting on the Feet When Alighting from a Bus

Abstract: Boarding and alighting from buses is a daily routine for most people, which can cause impact on the body. This research is a survey study to investigate the maximum vertical reaction force per body weight acting on the feet when alighting from a bus. The methodology was as follows: The participants were healthy volunteers with no muscle or joint injuries, 95 males and 95 females, aged between 16 and 54 years, weighing between 35 and 112 kilograms. Each person stepped off a bus and stepped on a reaction force measuring plate connected to a computer with force analysis software, embedded in the platform and road surface, in four different scenarios: the bus was stationary at the platform, the bus was moving at the platform, the bus was stationary outside the platform, and the bus was moving outside the platform. Each scenario was performed 5 times continuously, with a 3-5 minute break between scenarios. The order of bus alighting scenarios was determined by lottery for each participant. Record the maximum vertical reaction force relative to body weight.
