Lerdsin Hospital, Department of Medical Services

Mr. Mongkon Wimonrat, Director-General of the Department of Physical Education, together with Mr. Atcharat Yongthawee, Director of the Bureau of Sports Science, was invited to attend an inspection visit to Lerdsin Hospital. The visit was presided over by Mr. Pattana Promphat, Minister of Public Health.

They were welcomed by Dr. Nuttapong Wongwiwat, Director-General of the Department of Medical Services; Dr. Rak Vorrakitpokatorn, Chief Executive Officer of Bangkok Commercial Asset Management Public Company Limited; Dr. Adisak Ngamkajorwiwat, Director of Lerdsin Hospital; as well as executives and personnel of Lerdsin Hospital.

Mr. Pattana Promphat, Minister of Public Health, said the Ministry of Public Health has placed strong emphasis on promoting good health for Thai people of all ages by applying innovation and local wisdom to enhance healthcare services and drive the country’s health economy. Lerdsin Hospital has translated this policy into concrete action, particularly in three key areas.

First, the hospital is advancing its Medical Center of Excellence in Sports Medicine through integrated cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism and Sports and the Department of Physical Education. The center is being developed as a model public-sector sports medicine center offering comprehensive services through a multidisciplinary one-stop service approach. It aims to become an accessible Sports Medicine Hub for the public, systematically connected with sports-related networks, while supporting Thailand’s Medical Hub and Health Economy policies. The Minister also expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, Bangkok Commercial Asset Management Public Company Limited, and all relevant partners for supporting the establishment of the Medical Center of Excellence in Sports Medicine and helping drive it toward concrete outcomes.

Second, Lerdsin Hospital is promoting medical technology and innovation by enhancing the capacity of robotic-assisted surgery and medical 3D printing technologies as key mechanisms for advancing precision medicine. These efforts aim to develop the hospital toward becoming a Precision Surgery Hospital, improving the efficiency and safety of treatment while enhancing care for patients with complex conditions. On this occasion, the hospital officially launched the Lerdsin Institute of Robotic Surgery (LiROS), Thailand’s first mobile robotic-assisted surgery development center. The center is designed to support highly precise surgical procedures, reduce injury and complications, and help patients recover more quickly. In the future, LiROS aims to develop training programs to transfer knowledge to surgeons and medical personnel, while further expanding research and innovation cooperation with domestic and international networks, with the goal of becoming a regional center for precision robotic-assisted surgery.

Third, the hospital is driving the health economy through advanced healthcare innovation for gender-diverse individuals and gender-affirming care. This emerging center of excellence in gender-affirming care is intended to serve as a model for safe, standardized services that respect human dignity and recognize the diversity and individuality of each person. The initiative seeks to strengthen a modern, high-efficiency healthcare service system that covers all dimensions of care and responds equitably to the needs of all groups of people.
