Assumption Thonburi Cruise Past Kanthararom 5–1, Debsirin Edge Pitchayabundit 6–5 on Penalties in DPE–Dailynews Cup 2026 U16 Division A Quarter-Finals

The Department of Physical Education–Dailynews Cup 2026 inter-school football tournament for the 2026 academic year continued with the Under-16 Division A quarter-finals, competing for the Royal Trophy graciously bestowed by Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya, at Suphachalasai Stadium, National Stadium.

The opening match saw Debsirin School, known as “Look Mae Ramphoei,” face Pitchayabundit School, known as the “Junior Fighting Cocks.” Debsirin started strongly and took control of the game early, going ahead 1–0 through Teerapat Tassanakaseam in the 8th minute. Chayakorn Rit-in then added a superb strike to double the lead, sending Debsirin into halftime with a 2–0 advantage.

After the restart, Pitchayabundit made effective tactical adjustments and pulled one goal back through Phubodin Saengsing to make it 2–1. The match then opened up, with both teams trading attacks in an exciting contest. Pitchayabundit refused to give in and eventually found the equalizer through Sutthiphong Hachanon, forcing the match to end 2–2 in regulation time.

The game was decided by a penalty shootout, where Debsirin proved more clinical, winning 4–3 on penalties and 6–5 on aggregate. The victory sent Debsirin through to the semi-finals, where they will await the winner between defending champions Assumption College and Rajavinit Bangkaeo School.

In the second match, Assumption Thonburi delivered a dominant performance, defeating Kanthararom School 5–1.

Assumption Thonburi, known as the “Little Tycoons,” controlled the game from the start and took a 1–0 lead when Sukphatsarat Phongsura finished decisively inside the penalty area. Siriwat Wa-iad then doubled the lead in the 29th minute before “Arm” Pitchaya Wuttichai converted a penalty shortly before halftime to give Assumption Thonburi a commanding 3–0 lead.

In the second half, Pitchaya Wuttichai continued his outstanding form by scoring two more goals to complete his hat-trick and extend Assumption Thonburi’s lead to 5–0. It marked his second hat-trick hero performance in just three days, underlining the red-hot form of the striker.

Kanthararom managed to pull one goal back through a free-kick from Worachit Soichit in the 70th minute, but it was only a consolation. Assumption Thonburi went on to win 5–1 and advanced to the semi-finals, where they will face the winner between Suankularb Wittayalai School and Chainat Provincial Administrative Organization School.
