Workplace Happiness Manual
In our previous article, we explored effective ways to manage and ensure that employees strictly follow Work Instructions (WIs). In this edition, let’s dive into the two core elements required for successful operations.
Drawing from over 20 years of experience—ranging from my days as a factory supervisor and manager to my time as a corporate speaker—I have witnessed countless operational errors. Dealing with CARs (Corrective Action Reports) was a regular part of my routine, and the root cause I most frequently cited was simply: "Employee failed to follow WI."
However, when we apply analytical thinking to dig deeper into why this happens, the issue ultimately boils down to two main factors: 1) Employee Performance and 2) The Quality of WIs, Work Manuals, and Procedures.
When we analyze the relationship between these two factors, the outcomes can be categorized into 4 distinct groups, as illustrated in the diagram below:
